How to Unlock a Whirlpool Front Load Washer?
If the door cannot be opened even after resetting the appliance, you will have to do it manually.
Before you get to it, make sure the washer is switched off and unplugged from the socket. While handling any electrical appliance, pay close attention to your safety. Close off all the water faucets and wait for the drum to stop rotating. Keep in mind that you should never attempt to open the washer door when the drum is still rotating.
If you were running a cycle on high temperature, wait for the water and the laundry to cool down as well. Wait until all the water has been drained before you attempt opening the door.
- You will need to remove the top panel of the washer. For this you will need to remove 3, ¼” hex-head screws from the back. Once this is done, simply slide the top panel out.
- Once you have access to the inner components, locate the locking mechanism. It is usually found on the right side of the machine, about halfway down.
- Press down on the locking mechanism to release the latch.
If you see some problems with the washer like it being unable to drain the water, then the doors won’t open automatically until all the water is gone.
Check the drain hose of the appliance to make sure it is not blocked and that there is an air-gap between the standpipe and the hose. Once this is done, if the ‘add garment light’ is on, then press the start/pause button once. This should unlock the door.
A locked door can also be a result of selecting ‘fan dry’ option during the wash cycle. You can simply press the power button to cancel this. Use the drain and spin function to remove any water which is present in the drum.
